Game Basics

Q: If my character hasn’t attached a Skill this turn, but is fatigued, can that character still attach the Skill?
A: No. Fatiguing the character is part of the cost of attaching the Skill, so the character must be refreshed to attach the Skill.

Q. Do I always have to have a challenge face-up on my challenge deck?
A. Yes. The top card of your challenge deck must be face up at all times. If any card effect would shuffle your challenge deck or place an extra challenge in play, any remaining top card is always turned face up.

Q: If I use Varsity Training (PP #26) on Jenny Calendar (PP #58), can my opponent place Jenny Calendar into play? If I turn a Minion into a Villain with Animal Intensity (PP #25), can my opponent place a copy of that Minion into play?
A: No. On page 33 of the Rulebook it states “… there are no duplicates allowed of a Hero and Villain cards…” Once you turn a Companion or Minion into a Hero or Villain, no player can place another copy into play as long as your new Hero or Villain is in play.

Q: What if I already have a copy of a Minion or Companion in play that my opponent turns into a Hero or Villain?
A: Because there can only be 1 copy of a Hero or Villain in play, any other non-Hero or non-Villain copies are discarded from play.

Q. Can characters have negative talent values?
A. Yes. Characters can have negative talent values. So, if you had a character with 0 Butt-Kicking with Morning Person (PP #104), they would have -1 Butt-Kicking during the night.

Q. Are First Patrol cards tournament legal?
A. No. First Patrol cards are not tournament legal.

Q. I have an action card in my hand that has 3 Talent Icons, one in the top left, one in the middle right, and one in the lower right. What do each of these do?
A. Think of action cards having a horizontal line drawn through the middle of the card. The any talent icons on the top half of the card are used during fights and challenges. They are the talents you choose when you put cards into the Talent Stack. The bottom half of an action card is for the action card’s effect. The talent icon on the lower half of the card, surrounded by a diamond is the Talent Requirement for the action card. If you use the action card for it’s effect, a character has to meet that requirement.

Q. Can fatigued characters be given items?
A. Yes. Fatigued characters can be given items.

Q. How many Destiny Points do I start a game with?
A. You start off a game with 0 Destiny Points.

Q. If I have 0 Destiny Points and I lose a Destiny Point, do I go below 0?
A. No. Your Destiny Points will never go below 0.

Q. When do I reshuffle my discard pile back into my Resource Deck?
A. Whenever you try to draw a card and there are no more cards left in your Resource Deck.

Q. During the Refresh Step, do I refresh any fatigued items?
A. Yes. During the Refresh Step you refresh any cards that are fatigued, including characters, items, and skills.

Q. If a character is fatigued, does it get a -1 to its talents only during fights?
A. No. When a character is fatigued, it gets -1 to its talents at all times. This affects Talent Requirements, fights, and challenges.

Q. At the beginning of the game, can I wait for my opponent to reveal her Essence card before choosing which level 1 I want to start the game with?
A. No. Both players reveal their Essence card and their level 1 at the same time, so you cannot change your level 1 after seeing what your opponent is playing.

Q. When I swap items between characters, does the character have to meet Talent Requirements?
A. Yes. The character that is receiving the item has to meet any Talent Requirements on the card.

Q. When my character has a skill or item with a Talent Requirement, and my character's talent goes below that Talent Requirement do I lose it?
A. No. You only have to meet the Talent Requirement on a card when you attach it to a character. If your character's talent goes down you still keep your skills and items.

Q. If I try to use a card with a Talent Requirement, does 1 specific character have to meet the requirement, or can I add up the talents of all of my characters in play to meet the requirement?
A. Talent Requirements on cards have to be met by 1 character, and you cannot add the talents of multiple characters in play to meet Talent Requirements.

Q. I have a character in a fight that does not meet the Talent Requirement of a card that I want to use in the fight. If I have another character in play that meets the Talent Requirement, can I use the card in the fight?
A. No. During fights and challenges, if you want to use a card that has a Talent Requirement, one of your characters in the fight or challenge has to meet the requirement on the card.
